A Guide To Dehumidifiers – When & Why You Need One…

We recently purchased a lovely Victorian terrace house. Unfortunately, however, this lovely Victorian terrace house was a repossession and has been left, stood, exposed to the elements and with little repairs for years. As a result, there’s mould, damp and everything in-between…

I figured this was the perfect time to talk about dehumidifiers. As a result of our “new” home issues we’ve ventured into the world of dehumidifiers and buying the right one for your home or room is not as simple as you might think.

When & Why You Need A Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier is designed to combat the moisture in the home and restore the humidity. If you have a large amount of moisture in your home then it can easily gather in a resting place, therefore, reducing the possibility that you will develop mould.

A home with less humidity will mean that your clothes dry faster, bread and cereals will remain fresher for longer. You’ll often find metal objects in the shed or garage get rusty due to their exposure to humidity and moisture, this can easily happen to the metal objects inside your home without the help of a dehumidifier.

You’ll notice that you need a dehumidifier if you;
– Constantly find water stains on the walls or ceiling of your home
– See frequent condensation on the windows of your home
– Notice must or mildew smells
– See small black spots (mould spores) growing on the walls or in areas with high humidity such as the bathroom.Sometimes you’ll find that you need a dehumidifier even if you notice none of the signs above, especially if you live in an apartment or suffer from allergies.

VonHaus 2L Dehumidifier Review

When we were looking to purchase a dehumidifier there were a couple of things we were looking for;

  • A neutral colour scheme that would be suitable in our rooms once decorated
  • Low noise production
  • Compact
  • Affordable

The dehumidifier that really fit all these requirements and more was the VonHaus 2L dehumidifier. There are larger dehumidifier sizes available from VonHaus but with the 2L being suitable for small sized rooms up to 20m2 this seemed like the best fit for us.

This dehumidifier extracts 750ml a day at 30 degrees and 80% humidity and features a 2000ml water tank with visible water levels and a removable tray. The dehumidifiers neutral white colour makes it perfect for all rooms.

Neutral white colour and compact size make it perfect for small spaces, such as airing cupboards, caravans, bedrooms and more.

We’ve had the VonHaus 2L dehumidifier installed in our home for 2 weeks now and so far it’s been a real hit. We’ve moved it about between different rooms as and when we’ve thought we needed it, we’ve seen great results and zero disruption to our lives as a result. If you’re looking for a dehumidifier to enhance your home, we’d suggest this one!

We were sent this dehumidifier in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.
