April 2019 – What We Watched This Month

We’re back with another instalment of ‘what we watched this month’ having skipped March due to our wedding in Orlando, Florida. We’re excited to cover what we’ve watched over the last eight weeks as there have been some fantastic new releases both on the streaming service and in the cinema.

Another Disney live remake has been released this month in the form of Dumbo. This has received mixed reviews, and like all of the past live remakes, I’m still unsure as to what I truly think of the movie.

Can you really ever beat the animated classics? Despite my love for Disney the sceptic inside me continues to think this is only a chance for them to create a whole new merchandise range on an already existing movie that will likely move a lot quicker to due it being more ‘on-trend’.

One thing is for sure, I’m terrified for The Lion King. That film is the definition of my childhood and I’m so scared of what the live remake might do to the classic film.

Game of Thrones

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the final season of Game of Thrones has just started streaming on NowTV and on Sky.

We’ve just watched episode 3 and have become so invested in the show this season we’ve been staying up until 2am to watch it live the same time as the USA – this also thankfully, minimises spoilers.

Santa Clarita Diet

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to write that Santa Clarita Diet has not been renewed for a fourth season. Netflix released the third season in March and it was just as hilarious, gut-wrenchingly funny as the past two. Yet, they’ve decided to bin the show leaving many on Twitter (and the rest of the internet) myself included, confused…

Despite a cliffhanger at the end of season three, to which we will likely never know the outcome we’d still suggest investing your time in this fantastic show!

Okay, we’re a little late to the party with this one but that’s thanks to this series finally being available outside of the BBC (we don’t have a TV licence).

Not only has Luther been binge watch worthy, but it’s also finally enabled us to see what everyone see’s in Idris Elba…

We’re rounding off this month’s what we watched this month with a Disney classic we managed to pick up cheap on DVD in the charity shop – Hercules.

Filled with all the magic of a Disney story and the added bonus of a fantastic soundtrack it’s easy to forget what a great film this really is.

Looking ahead to May we’re already excited for what the month has to hold, with new cinema releases including the highly anticipated Detective Pikachu and Secret Life of Pets 2.
