Detective Pikachu has recently been released in cinemas around the world. In this review we’re taking a look at one of the premier Pokemon card sets for the movie, the Detective Pikachu Case File.
We’ve been excited for the release of the Detective Pikachu Pokemon card series since seeing a sneak peek back at the Toy Fair in London in January. We grabbed two sets from our local Game store for £10.99 (currently on offer with a free limited edition Psyduck card and Detective Pikachu poster)
The case is made of cardboard, if you’re looking long term either as storage or a display item, I’d consider upgrading to the Detective Pikachu collectors chest which retails for £25.99 instead.
Inside you’ll find;
2x Detective Pikachu booster packs (with 4 cards instead of the usual 9 or 10 you’d see in other Pokemon decks)
1x Crimson Invasion booster pack
1x SM Black Star Promo – Detective Pikachu
1x Detective Pikachu game coin.
1x Online game code / card
If you’re after cards, this isn’t the best value set for your money. What you’re really purchasing this set for is the limited edition black star promo Detective Pikachu and that awesome Pikachu game coin. An while I understand that they’ve used a Crimson Invasion booster pack to round off the set and make it slightly better value for money, I can’t help feeling that it’s a little out of place.
That said, with a series of just 18 cards. I can understand why they chose a different Pokemon deck instead of just three or four Detective Pikachu booster packs.
In conclusion, the Detective Pikachu case file is a great set for those looking for a budget alternative to the collectors chest. With 8 cards from the pack of 18, (in our case we received 6 unique cards from the 8) it’s a great way to get started on the series and should likely only require a handful more boosters to complete the entire collection.
